Best Wheel and Tyre Combos for the Ford Ranger Super Duty
The Ford Ranger Super Duty is built differently from a standard Ranger and that changes how you choose wheels and tyres. With an 8-stud wheel hub, heavy-duty axles, and factory 33-inch tyres, this platform is designed to carry more load, tow heavier, and handle tougher terrain.
In this guide, we break down the most practical wheel and tyre combinations for the Ranger Super Duty whether you’re building a work ute, touring rig, or off-road setup.
And yes you can legally run 35's and yes they do fit without any further modification to the Ranger Super Duty - provided you have the right wheel offset or you go a 10.5 over a 12.5.
Factory Wheel and Tyre Size (Baseline)
Before upgrading, it’s important to understand what comes standard.
Factory Specification — Ranger Super Duty
- Wheel size: 18-inch steel wheel
- Tyre size: LT275/70R18
- Wheel offset: +55
- Approx tyre diameter: 33 inches
- Wheel pattern: 8-stud heavy-duty hub
- Purpose: Load carrying and durability
The factory setup is intentionally conservative, prioritising strength and payload capacity over aesthetics. The Super Duty’s reinforced chassis and upgraded suspension are designed to support higher loads and harsh working environments.
Key Things to Consider Before Choosing Wheels and Tyres
1. Load Rating Matters Most
This is the single biggest difference compared to a normal Ranger. Because the Super Duty has a 4500kg GVM, your wheels and tyres must be rated to handle that weight safely.
Look for:
- High load-rated wheels
- Light Truck (LT) tyres
- Reinforced sidewalls
- Legal compliance with GVM
Example: Some heavy-duty wheels designed for the platform offer load ratings around 1650kg per wheel, making them suitable for GVM-upgraded vehicles.
2) Intended Use
Your ideal setup depends heavily on how the vehicle is used.
Typical categories:
Work / Trade
Touring / Overlanding
Off-road / Appearance
Each has a different optimal tyre size and wheel width.

Tyre: 295/70R18 or 35"

- Strong off-road performance
- Aggressive stance
Trade-offs:
- Higher fuel consumption
- Clearance modifications

Recommended Wheel Specs for Ranger Super Duty
When shopping for wheels, these specifications matter more than brand.
Minimum recommended specs
- Stud pattern: 8-stud
- Wheel size: 18 inch
- Width: 8.5 to 9 inch
- Offset: Around +35
- Load rating: 1500kg+ per wheel
These specs align with the vehicle’s heavy-duty design and ensure safe operation under load.
Most Common Mistakes When Choosing Wheels and Tyres
Avoid these:
Choosing wheels with insufficient load rating
Going too large on tyre size
Ignoring legal requirements
Using passenger-rated tyres instead of LT tyres
These issues can affect safety, insurance, and vehicle reliability.
The Bottom Line
The Ford Ranger Super Duty is engineered for serious work, and its wheel and tyre setup must match that capability.
Best overall combo for most owners:
18x9 wheels
285/70R18 tyres
This setup balances:
- Load capacity
- Ride comfort
- Off-road performance
- Everyday usability
If I’m being honest, my choice is 35x12.5R18 mainly because it looks tough on the Ranger Super Duty. But if practicality matters most, I’d recommend 35x10.5R18 for better drivability and availability. The great thing about the Ford Ranger Super Duty is that 35-inch tyres are a legal option in many cases, so it makes sense to take advantage of that. And realistically, 35s look right at home on the Super Duty anything smaller can look a bit undersized.
